Hi everyone. I just ordered my Alias 2 from Verizon about an hour ago. I spent the last 24 hours reading every review on the different phones I could find. The two things that sold me on the Alias 2 are the fact that it has one of the best user ratings on the Verizon site, and the e-ink keypad. I'm really looking forward to that QWERTY keypad... I've been using a Motorola SLVR for two years and text messages are really slow with the number pad. I spent an hour at the Verizon store last night looking at every phone and I think the Alias 2 has the best QWERTY keypad of all of them.
The only downside for me is the size of the Alias 2 . My old phone is only .45 inches thick, so it fits in my pocket real well.
I'm hoping Samsung or Verizon will come out with an update that lets users customize the keypad. It would be really exciting if we could create our own custom layouts and key graphics.
That probably won't happen. The key graphics look almost impossible to customize. If you pay careful attention to how it changes keys, it as if each key is made into a 2x2 grid and one grid gets activated. Imagine if the key was split into 4 pieces. You can see that the letters/numbers change position on the keys, and if my assumptions are correct, the key changing is hardwired and you would have to make your own buttons to change the key. At most I suspect that you can only change when the key appears.
This phone isn't that thick either. It fits just fine in those cell phone pockets they make in a lot of jeans. I actually like how it's a bit bigger mostly because the screen is bigger and nicer too. When you flip the phone the picture rotates so that means if you make your own wallpaper you should make it at least 320 pixels wide for when it rotates to landscape view.
And btw, I'm Dark Ragnarok, nice to meet you all. This place doesn't have many threads but hopefully that'll change. This phone is pretty damn awesome, but the one major thing that pisses me off about it, is how Verizon rigged either it's service or the phone to not allow txt on MMS messages to non Verizon customers. I suspect it's a software limitation because Samsung's program for connecting the phone the the PC via USB, says it allows you to send MMS text instead of limiting MMS Texting to only Verizon only customers. Anyways once I get my USB cable i'm tinkering with the phone whatever way I can.
Ah... I found out what the deal was. When you send a txt message, it's really using SMS. When you open up a Pic Message, and try to type in the text field, you actually have 1,000 character limit. So Pic Message really means MMS. Only limitation is that you only can see one line at a time when you text.
hello, I got my alias phone about a month ago. So far I like about everything about the phone exept 2 things. 1. Not sure what kind of headphones to buy for this phone 2. for some odd reason I cant get music on my memory card
You can get music on your card after you format it, you can get a USB cable or use Bluetooth and then use Windows Media Player and sync it or just drag and drop files in USB mode. You have to format it first!
***Which also means everything on the card will be erased!***
thanks man I got the card reformated and got all my music on the phone. Now I just need to find a place to buy some head phones that are small enough for this phone.
Hey ppl, I'm Monte. Got my A2 about a week ago. Was looking for some tips and tricks and happened onto this site. I also got this phone because of the high user rating. So far, the only thing I'm not fond of is the bigger size. It's a bit big for your pocket, and I'm not into wearing the geeky belt purse..... ok peace. Gonna look around on here.
Meh. The size is a really small weak point, should you call it one. Isn't easier to hold in your hand? Don't you like the bigger screen? More room for the buttons? Besides, I'm sure you bought this phone with the intent to use the qwerty keyboard. If you use it in that mode most of the time, like I do, then the size doesn't seem out of place whatsoever. It doesn't seem flimsy to me. In fact as long as it doesn't swing open when it falls, it seems very fit to survive a few falls. Granted it's not the easiest phone to hide... I still find it a fun phone to actually show off, not hide from everyone. I can say I have the first U.S. phone to feature E-Ink.
If the phone had more problematic drawbacks, it would have to be the way the OS handles receiving text messages while typing them. That does tend to get a little annoying. However, I have yet to find a better phone to circumvent that problem. I would like to bithack the phone to not alert you when you get a text while texting. That's a much better way to handle it. Instead of a *ALERT MESSAGE RECEIVED*, it should just only show the text message icon so you know. It shouldn't be hard to find who sent it.
The other issue seemingly at hand is that the phone is not that great at hearing you whisper into it. I've used whisper mode on it, but so far it seems people have trouble hearing me anyways. Not sure in what way though. I personally think it's a not so well placed mic. It's underneath the phone where sound is not directly hitting it.
No problem Dark. Just want you to know, I like this phone! I don't think it could be smaller in size and still be as useful as it is. It will just take some time to get used to the bigger size from my old phone. Thanks! Peace bro!
Hi I'm bnttwnbnt. I've had my Alias 2 since July 2009. It's a great phone and satisfies my need for a qwerty keyboard while still being a flip phone (I was considering the LG EnV3 but it looks too much like a remote control).
I stumbled upon this forum while searching google for tips on how to play music on my MicroSD 8GB card on my Alias2. Because of this forum, I had no problems doing it!
Looking forward to learning more about my Alias2 from this forum and contributing to it as well!
Hello I am Timberfrost, I got my Alias 2 around xmas 2009. I was wondering how to make the file viewer more readable. Also when I use it the screen only shows half of the page (or less) and I cannot scroll to view the rest of each page without using the zoom feature but then there are arrows covering some of the text and np matter what I do the text size is super small. anyone have useful imformation on how to use this feature better?
Hey there, I'm bm728. I got my Alias 2 activated today (after having it for a while but going through activation troubles that have since been solved), and so far I'm liking it. I came to this forum in search of the best ways to make this phone as accessible to me as possible, and since it seems like replies aren't abundant in this thread, I'll start a new one with my question.
Hello, I'm very new to this. I have many questions about my phone. You probably will have to write a book. Please try to bear with me. Again, hello to all.
