Does anyone know if you can use a pre-existing Rhapsody account with the Alias 2? In the alternative, will VCAST Rhapsody work with other MP3 devices? My current Best Buy account (which costs no more than VCAST Rhapsody) allow me to synch upto 3 devices. Would be nice if my Alias 2 could be one of them. Or if VCASt Rhapsody would let me sync my phone as well as my MP3 player. I shouldn't have to pay for 2 subscriptions for 2 devices (just because one of them happens to be an Alias 2)
Hi Tutena, welcome to Alias2.com! I don't have any personal experience with Rhapsody, but a bit of digging revealed the following discussion of the matter. This thread is only current as of September 2008, but it sounds like while they won't transfer your Rhapsody account to a VCAST Rhapsody account, you still can use a regular account, at least on some phones. The non-VCAST Rhapsody account apparently though doesn't support the "dual-download" to both phone and PC. You might want to ask your specific question on this Official Rhapsody forum. http://real.lithium.com/real/board/message?board.id=InstallingRhapsody&thread.id=33125
Some excerpts (the one at the bottom explains the differences):
"Unfortunately, there's no option to merge Rhapsody accounts together, or transfer a Rhapsody account over to VCast and vice-versa."
" why cant we just upgrade our accounts/use an existing login?
Its all about corporate rules and fees. Verizon is paying Rhapsody a usage fee per person. When you are in Rhapsody, you are paying straight to Rhapsody. Its not as simple as 'upgrading an account'... but its always about to flow of money. Just change your Rhapsody account to a free account then get Verizon to activate your VCast."
"I have a similar problem, but my Rhapsody Unlimited is paid yearly and just renewed in May. Real support could/would not do a partial refund on my Rhapsody account to switch."
"Why do you need to switch your account? I have had a Rhapsody subscription for the last 3 years and when I got my LG Dare, I just used it with my already existing account. It works perfectly."
"Agreed - mine works perfectly. What am I missing w/o a "vcast" account?"
"Vcast Rhapsody accounts are tied in to their Verizon account, so they use the number and password provided from Verizon. Any billing that occurs from purchasing songs etc is billed to their Verizon account, and Vcast users also get the benefit of what we call dual-download. When you purchase a song on your Vcast enabled phone, it downloads the song to that phone, and also allows you to download the song to your PC when you sign-in to the Vcast Rhapsody software client."
