Since the Alias 2 can play back videos that you take with the camera, we can trick it into playing other videos, simply by converting them to the same format as its camera.

    1. Copy the Youtube link into the box at and click Nab Video.
    2. Save the .flv video file to your hard drive.
    3. Download SUPER Video Converter at:
    4. Import your flv file(s) into SUPER, by opposite clicking in the program and clicking "Add Multimedia Files".
    5. Change the Output Container to "3g2 (Sony Ericsson)". It may say Sony Ericsson, but this is the same format the alias 2 takes, and has worked fine for me.
6.Click "Encode (Active Files)", and the conversion begins.
    7. Take the converted files, and place them in the "my_flix" folder on your microsd card. You can rename the files as long as they keep there 3g2 file extension.
    8. Your Alias 2 should now recognize and play the videos right alongside the ones that are recorded with the camera.

Great tutorial, thanks spunker! People may want to note, tho, that some people on that page are complaining about difficulties with uninstalling SUPER.

Ive never had to uninstall SUPER, so i didnt know. Unless you can suggest something else that does this for free.
I really like SUPER. It does have a few things about it i dont like, like how it always checks for updates, but other than that its free and does many formats.

You could try I will try it later and see if it produces usable video, that way we would have a free cross-os platform that requires no software.

How to watch 3GP movies for the Samsung Alias 2

    1. Download Youtube videos with Downloadhelper
    2. Open SUPER
    3. Put settings on 1) 3GP, 2) H.263 3) AMR Narrow Band
    4. Right click to add file
    5. Click "Encode (Active Files)" so that the .flv files will convert to .3GP)
    6. Make sure SD chip is fully formatted through the cell phone, then put the SD chip in your computer
    7. Add the new 3GP files by putting them into the My_Flix folder in the formatted SD Chip
    8. Put the SD chip back in the phone and go to your videos.
    9. Enjoy, and read some koans

There is a a quicker way for videos that are on Youtube. Youtube stores their videos in multiple formats and they can be directly downloaded. One of these formats is a 3GP that works on the Alias without any extra conversion. Get an extension like this one ( for Firefox to download the video in that format
